About Stripped Canvas

I have been around the world and back (physically, mentally, metaphorically, spiritually — you pick) – and I’m still spinning.

I like to travel and explore, read, write, draw, cook and share my life with my soul partner and our dog Weston. Anything that is about growth, love and is inspiring and pretty is what I’m drawn to.

  1. Yes, simplicity and perhaps even minimalism is really the way to go in most aspects of life. If one could detangle oneself from all complications of daily life and realize the futility of material acquisitions, life would surely be easier to go through.

However, not just to be contentious, but what do you suggest one does about sustaining oneself and to live. Not just to live, as in squeek by but to live well. E.g if one wanted to live in an area where one didn’t have to worry about drugs, burglaries and robberies. What if one wanted to start a family and have kids, what would the minimalists solution be, to be able to live in a good area, where the school district is good and where ones kids would grow up safely? What kind of profession would the minimalist sugggest one would choose in order to be able to afford it?

As much as I long for a simple and minimalistic life style, I have a hard time incorporating it’s ideals into my professional as well as personal life. Being older and having acquired proclivities for some of the costlier things in life, I find that simplicity and minimalism often aren’t on the menu. Complexity at work and a financial need for more than just the minimum is however served daily.

I commend you for embracing Laozi’s ideals. You are seemingly wise beyond your years.

A minimalist lifestyle wouldn’t require a high income. If one would be ok living that lifestyle for oneself then great.
